Uniquesec's ASGARD2 automotive radar target simulator takes a leap forward in Japanese Market

Written by The team | June 5, 2023

Uniquesec recently closed a major deal with its distributor Toyo. This order includes three units of ASGARD2 for testing of a vehicle in the loop equipped with three radar sensors. The new test bench would allow automotive industries in Japan to test their production vehicles with various safety functionalities such as AEB, ACC, CTA, LKA and side assist in a variety of realistic scenarios.

Successful presence in Japanese market

Uniquesec AB, the Swedish startup based in Gothenburg, reached the Japanese auto industry in 2019 with its first product, ASGARD1. Later in 2020, Uniquesec launched its next product ASGARD2, as the only automotive RTS with electronic angle perception generation, in Japan for the first time.

This product is going to be delivered to JARI, Japan Automotive Research Institute. Toyo Corporation is going to integrate ASGARD2 in a full test setup together with dynamometer and vision stimulation. With an environment simulator, this setup is able to provide a realistic vehicle-in-loop system (VILS) to test advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as well autonomous vehicles (AV). One of the main advantage of this setup is the real-time behaviour of the whole system, including ASGARD2, enabling high and low speed testings. Another major benefit of ASGARD2 radar test system is its capability of emulating targets at short minimum distances which together with capability of generating a dense point cloud of targets, allow emulation of complicated and busy traffic scenarios, like downtown Tokyo.

JARI will deploy this HIL/VIL setup for testing various vehicles and radar sensors.

Uniquesec CEO, Dr. Kasra Haghighi believes that use of ASGARD2 will reduce huge amount of driving expeditions and test driving required for testing and validation of ADAS and AVs. This will reduce the time-to-market, cost of development and CO2 emission of such development, which allow sustainable and green development of current and future autonomous vehicles.
